The Government of NWT engaged WSP Canada to conduct a high level climate change vulnerability assessment using the Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee (PIEVC) Protocol. The vulnerability assessment included every type of municipal infrastructure within the boundaries of the 33 communities of NWT (over 1900 interactions), including civil, parks and facilities, buildings, fuel storage and power facilities. In addition to the application of the Protocol, WSP provided risk maps for every community to illustrate the spatial extent of hazards and the location of the infrastructure at risk. For every community, WSP also provided a list of medium / high risks that were identified, proposed adaptation measures including maintenance and inspection procedures and recommendations for future work to address data gaps.
