The City of Calgary (the City) has embarked on this resilience planning process in response to the impactful climate
changes being experienced by the City. This project contributes to the process by conducting a climate risk and
resilience assessment (CRRA) on the Village Square Leisure Centre (the facility) in accordance with the City’s
Integrated Risk Management Framework and the Public Infrastructure Climate Risk Assessment process. The
Village Square Leisure Centre is located at 2623, 56th Street Northeast, Calgary, Alberta, and was originally
constructed in 1980.
The methodology applied in this project builds upon the City’s Public Infrastructure Climate Risk Assessment
process – based on the PIEVC process – and expanded it to include adaptation planning and reporting to align with
the City’s climate risk framework. This consisted of five procedural steps:
1. Impacts assessment
2. Consequence scoring
3. Risk assessment
4. Adaptation identification and prioritization
5. Options analysis
The process involved engaging with City staff and members of the design team in three virtual workshops and an
online survey to complete the hazard impacts assessment, score consequences, and identify possible adaptation
measures.
