PIEVC CLIMATE RISK AND VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT

PIEVC CLIMATE RISK AND VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT

The objective of the Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment is to assess the infrastructure components of the planned FSF that are at risk of failure or impaired service due to the impacts of climate change and extreme climate events. Building codes have traditionally been based on historical climate data for specific regions and as a result, buildings and infrastructure have been designed with specific climate loads based on historical climate data.

The Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment (CCVA) was completed using the PIEVC Protocol developed by Engineers Canada to assess the vulnerabilities of public infrastructure to the impacts of climate change. The Cold Lake PIEVC CCVA involved completion of steps 1, 2, 3, and 5 of the PIEVC Process. A climate profile for the area was developed to determine the expected climate hazards and associated probabilities of climate hazards occurring under current climate (1981-2010), and future conditions (period from 2041-2070 (2050s) and 2071 to 2100 (2080s)).
