The Metrolinx Five Year Strategy (2015-2020) included the provision for a Corporate Climate Adaptation Plan to be established by 2018. In view of this goal, Metrolinx created a Senior Advisor position in resiliency and adaptation, and engaged a project team, consisting of specialists from AECOM, Risk Sciences International and Toronto Region Conservation Authority, to conduct a pilot study on climate change vulnerabilities.

Six representative assets were analyzed using Engineers Canada’s Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee (PIEVC) Protocol, so that specific, actionable recommendations could be presented for Metrolinx consideration regarding the vulnerability of its infrastructure to the impacts from climate change and extreme weather events.
