June 15, 2018

A climate change vulnerability assessment was conducted by the Vancouver Island Health Authority for Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) using the PIEVC protocol. The work consisted of identifying the potentially vulnerable infrastructure systems, determining possible climate change induced effects on relevant climatic parameters, and developing a risk rating for each possible interaction. For each of the medium and high-risk interactions, recommendations for climate adaptation were provided. Systems that are due for short- to medium-term replacement were prioritized to avoid lost opportunities by aligning renewal planning with climate mitigation and adaptation.
